【摘要】:Thesetestmethodscoverthequalitativedeterminationofglycol-baseantifreezeinusedlubricatingoils(mineralbase)bytwoprocedures,oneusingreagentsintabletformandtheotherusinglaboratoryshelfreagents.Principallythetestmethodsdetectethyleneglycolbutwillalsodetectother1,2-glycolsthatmaybepresent.Whenapositiveresultisobtainedandasampleoftheunusedoilisavailable,theunusedoilisalsotestedandusedasareference.Note1-Sincetheinceptionofthistestmethod(1971),therehavebeenmanychangesinbasestocktechnologyandadditivetechnology.Therefore,whenavailable,thenew,unusedoil,orasampleofthesameusedoil,knowntonotcontainantifreeze,istestedasareference.Thetabletprocedure(ProcedureA)issensitivetoabout100mg/kgandtheshelfreagentprocedure(ProcedureB)toabout300mg/kgofethyleneglycol.Glycol-basedcoolantleaksintocrankcasesmaynotbedetectedormayresultinalowbiasusingthesetestmethodsiftheglycolhasdegradedorbeenthermallyorotherwiseoxidized.Theconditionsincrankcasesmaybesuchthatcontaminantglycolsareoxidizedordegradedtoadegreetowhichthecolorindicatorreactiondoesnotoccurorisbiasedenoughsoastonottriggerthecolorchange.Othertestmethodsforthedetectionofcoolantsorcoolantadditivesinlubricatingoilsshouldbeusediftheresultsfromthesetestmethodsaloneareinconclusiveorquestionable.Carbohydratessuchassugarsandsugar-containingsubstancesaresometimesusedforsabotagepurposes.Ifthepresenceofthesesubstancesissuspected,ProcedureAcontainsamodificationtoremovetheseinterferences.Bothproceduresareadaptabletofieldkituse,andbriefdescriptionsforconvertingtofieldkitformaregiveninAnnexA1.Commercialfieldtestingkitsareavailable.Theresultsobtainedbythismethodarequalitativeexpressions.However,forthepreparationofreagentsandintheprocedures,acceptableSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
